Christian Education Outreach USA (website: bigceousa.org) encourages churches and other organizations to conduct Back to the Past Town Hall Forums. Ideally the forums will be composed of a moderator and a panel of seniors who are willing to share or recall past historical, church or social events etc. The goal is to bridge the communication and the generation gap between the young and the old.

Website Information

Dear Christian Friends
Website information: A Vitamin link was added to the resource section of my website some three years ago. The link was appropriate when it was first posted but another company apparently bought the rights to the link. I recently opened the link and found out that it had some inappropriate content. The link has been removed from the resource section of my bigceousa.org website. To those who have websites; it is important to check the content of outside web links on a regular basis. Thanks for your time and attention.

Loving Care of a teacher

In the loving, caring hands of a teacher
When I was walking down a school hallway I heard a loud scream. I instinctively turned around in the direction of the scream. There was a young lady screaming and running away from a flying bird, she later said when she was a little girl she had a negative reaction when she was bitten by a wild bird. Fortunately most of the students had gone home for day when the incident occurred.
The frustrated, frighten Blue Jay flew toward me and perched on top of the right corner lockers located near the north end exist. A feeling of optimism came over me; I felt that the bird would fly to freedom when I opened the door. I tried to entice the bird to fly out of the building by motioning my hands but the horrified bird stood frozen in the same spot.

Bullying

There is a lot of talk about bullying and intimidation. Most of the talk centers on student bullying in the public school system. Most schools have an anti bullying policy. Punishments are clearly defined for students who choose to bully or intimidate others in a public school setting.
The problem with bullying is that it does not always involve students. Some of the most serious bullying and intimidation is in the workplace. Bullying in the workplace is generally more covert than overt. Administrators who solve employment problems subjectively rather than objectively open the door to employee harassment and intimidation. It is unfortunate that there is a lot of subjective decisions in the workplace. Some capable employees are victims of unfair subjective administration decisions. Lots of less capable employees have been promoted because of their likeability or their physical appearance rather than their capability.

The world is changing

My recent visit to the UNCW library was enough to convince me that the education system has undergone some major changes since my initial college years. Hundreds of students were in the library and they all had laptop computers. No old school notebooks or pencils were visible. Students were busy surfing the internet or imputing vital classroom information into their laptops.
When I first enrolled in college paper, pencils and index cards were essential research tools now students surf electronic databases to find vital research information. Today’s students participate in online classroom discussions via the internet. Students have specific posting dates and times for the submission of assigned work. They have several posting accounts such as blackboard and task stream and they also have numerous email accounts and some are required to assess various social networks when completing various assignments.

Discipline

Discipline is a systematic pattern of thinking which yields positive results. Successful athletics, preachers, teachers, doctors, lawyers, mothers and fathers are highly discipline and goal oriented. Genuine discipline is a lifestyle and not an afterthought. Discipline is ingrained in the nature of those who consistently achieve. The difference in an amateur and a professional is the level and quality of discipline.
The great thinkers and writers of the past were highly discipline. The sheer volume of written artifacts is testimony to the discipline of the elite writers. Aristotle, Plato, Shakespeare, John Hope Franklin the noted black historian and Duke University professor who recently passed away and the great African theologians and fathers of the early Christian church, Clement of Alexandria, Origen of Alexandria, Saint Augustine Bishop of Hippo, were elevated to legendary status due to a discipline will to excel and achieve.

Pray for oil spill solution

The oil spill threatens the Gulf Coast and the Eastern Sea Board. The American economy is undergoing a painful transition. The effects of the oil spill are felt in the nation’s Stock Market. We live in a Global society. The world’s financial systems are interconnected.
It is time for all Americans to work together, the Tea Party, Republicans, Democrats, Christians, Jews and those of the Islamic faith need to hope for a positive outcome. No political party is in a position to gloat over the present crises for a political gain.
There are times when tragic events serve as painful reminders and teachers. The present oil spill lets us know that human beings are helpless in the face of nature. Hopefully BP will soon find a solution.

Change the world for good rather than bad

A fast moving world initiates continuous change and adjustments. Change does not mean compromising personal values for political correctness. It simply means adjusting to new ideas and new procedures.

In many ways a Pandora’s Box of change has ascended. Scientists are experimenting with new medicines and new drugs to increase physical pleasure or improve the quality of life. The entertainment complex is pushing for more adult programming. The industry is money and ratings driven. Violence and sexually oriented programming will continue to flood the airways when there is no protest or opposition.

Prayer for Children

Pray for children who are given everything except love and attention. We pray that the parents or the guardians of every child will realize that spending quality time, communicating and hugs are more important than cell phones, computers, and play stations, X boxes or a bedroom cable television.
A prayer of love goes out to every fatherless and motherless child who cries themselves to sleep because of the lack of food and fresh water. We pray that the physical, emotional, safety and spiritual needs of every child is met.
We pray for the children who have self esteem issues due to feeling that their physical appearance, academics or athleticism are not in line with the standards of the media or those of their peers or associates. We pray that young people who suffer self esteem issues will hear words of guidance and encouragement before experiencing psychological or emotional problems or before they physically act out or retaliate against others.

Look for a silver lining in disappointment

Look for a silver lining in disappointments
Some view disappointments as a prelude to failure others view disappointments as stepping stones to success. Most major achievements are born out of failure and disappointments. The space program failed many times before it succeeded. Experimental space rockets crashed and fell back to earth before a reliable space carrier was developed. Most medical cures are products of multiple test tube failures. The Boston Celtics and the Los Angeles Lakers failed before they succeeded. Michael Jordan spent six years in the NBA before he won his first championship. Thomas Edison experimented with countless light bulbs before finding a reliable bulb. The Arizona Cardinals Football team won their division championship for the first time in thirty three years.

Tell the Truth

It is better to tell the truth rather than to be politically correct

Biblical truth is both unchanged and unchangeable and cannot be modified or customized to fit a specific lifestyle or mode of behavior. A person can either accept or reject the teachings of the bible.

Carrie Prejean the recent runner up in the Miss America pageant is to be commended for being consistent with her beliefs. She believed that marriage is between a man and a woman which is a noble belief because it is based on the Word of God. A person can either accept the scriptural teachings of marriage or reject them, there is no middle ground.

Those who believe in the bible should not apologize for its’ teachings on marriage, political correctness should not over rule the truth when it comes to scriptural teachings.

Graduates

Be prepared for the best and worst in life. Life is filled with highs and lows, twist and turns. There are few guarantees in life. The benefit of good deeds and hard work is sometimes reaped years later.
Success comes easy for some and is a struggle for others. If success is achieved remain humble and gracious for one criminal act, a major loss of employment or a serious illness can blur the benefits of success.
Life is about relationships, negative relationships leads to sadness and positive relationships leads to happiness and success, Share your life with others, value personal relationships more than material possessions.

Partiality

Don’t Show Partiality
One of the problems that has plagued families, churches, schools and politics is the showing of partiality, toward certain persons or groups. One of the ways to destroy teamwork and cooperation is to subjectively judge people rather than objectively judge them on the merits of their abilities.
Parents who treat their children different for no reason run the risk of causing a spirit of hostility which could lead to major family problems. One of the most difficult challenges for a child to overcome is the sting of being treated unfairly by their parents. The mistreatment of children sometimes leaves scars that remain a life time.

Successful people are usually goal oriented. Dr. Martin Luther King was a goal oriented person, he had a specific goal and some clearly defined objectives and a solid action plan to achieve his goal. He was not afraid of listening to different ideas of men and women who were accomplished in their right. He surrounded himself with strong capable associates.

Dream

Act on your dreams build positive relationships with others
We live in a time when many people fail to achieve their goals and objectives because they are prisoners within their own minds. Nelson Mandela the great South African leader spent twenty seven years in prison due to a corrupt apartheid legal system. He was physically in prison but he was mentally free because freedom is a state of mind.
Mr. Mandela endured the humiliation of being penned up like an animal with little hope of being freed. His movement was restricted and his options were few. He could have easily given up and escaped into a world of depression and despair but he did not.

Unnecessary Gossip destroys lives
We are living in a time when many men and women are caught up in a web of lies and half truths. Gossip magazines have become major enterprises because the appetite for vicious rumors and half truths is at a fever pitch. Bad news has become a psychological drug for many people. Some people actually experience a feeling of euphoria when they read or share vicious gossip or rumors about others.

You got to have heart

You got to have heart to find out what will make you a successful person
In the 1960s, a leading sports commentator spoke these piercing words about the 26-mile marathon race.
He said, “There are many things that can break the body, a tragic wreck, a prolonged illness, a natural disaster.

But the marathon breaks the heart.”
Courage is synonymous with the heart because the heart is the center of life. The Bible says it is from the heart

that precedes all thoughts of envy and strife. Negative and positive thoughts originate in the heart.
The Tin Man in the classic “Wizard of Oz” story was void of courage because he did not have a heart.
