The Twenty-First Century Traveler
As we enter the twenty-first century men, women, boys and girls are faced with the question of whether they will travel the narrow straight road that leads to meaning and purpose or travel the broad rode that leads to death and destruction.
Paul reminds us in the fifth chapter of Galatians that within every person there is a struggle between the Flesh and the Spirit. They who walk in the Flesh will be driven by envy, strife and vainglory and they who walk in the Spirit will be inspired by love, peace and long-suffering.
Those who walk in the Spirit are granted a spiritual road-map for guidance. The streets on the spiritual road-map are straight and narrow. Those who continue to travel the straight and narrow road will receive eternal joy, eternal happiness and eternal peace and they will emphasize the importance of meekness, kindness and patience.
Travelers on the straight and narrow road in the twenty-first century will also avoid the trap of senseless gossip. They will seek to build up their brother and sister rather than tear them down. They will accentuate the positive rather than the negative. Kindness and consideration will be a driving force on the straight and narrow highway. Mean spirited attitudes will be replaced with a Spirit of peace and harmony.
Spoken words and the expressions of good will on the straight and narrow road will have meaning and purpose. The tone of one's voice will unite rather than divide. Love expressed on the straight and narrow road will be genuine and will be reinforced by positive physical action.
A spirit of forgiveness will also be expressed on the straight and narrow road in the twenty-first century. The Master forgave us of our sins and trespasses therefore; we must be willing to forgive our follow man. A willingness to forgive denotes humility and those who seek to enter the Kingdom of God must become as little children. They must be willing to forgive and forget.
Finally, those who travel the straight and narrow road must be led by the Holy Spirit. They must stand firm on the rock of Faith and rely on the power of prayer. They must pray in season and out of season for prayer overcomes all. The scripture says "greater is he who lives within you than he who lives within the world."
When all is said and done we must resist sin and temptation. The Word says "Resist the devil and he will flee from you." Strive to live a Christian life and always remember that genuine joy and happiness is only experienced when we serve others. Jesus was a servant therefore: we must be servants. Spread a little joy as you travel the straight and narrow road in the twenty-first century.
