True happiness is not found in materialism
In today's fast pace world there is an over emphasis on material possessions. A desire to keep up with Joneses is a national obsession for many men, women, boys and girls. Some people are convinced that their neighbors and friends are blessed with an abundance of material possessions and they desire to possess the same level of materialism. They fail to realize that some people are in debt and have no idea how they will maintain a pseudo delusion of wealth acquired by high interests credit cards.
Jails are filled with men, women, boys and girls who were more interested in stealing the possessions of others rather than being thankful for their own personal gifts and talents.
In the 90's a brass political analyst told a young politician to focus on the economy if wanted to be elected. The analyst said "it is the economy". The young politician refined his message and focused on the economy and won the election by a wide margin.
The same can be said about happiness; a person has to focus on positive relationships with others if happiness is to be found. Genuine peace and happiness is not found in material possessions which offer temporary joy and happiness. It is found in a positive relationship with God and our fellow man.
The Apostle Paul said in his letter to the Philippians "think on things that are honest, just, pure, and lovely and is of a good report." These words were spoken over two thousand years ago but they are still relevant in today's society. Right thoughts and actions leads to happiness and peace which will last a lifetime. Wrong thoughts and actions leads to pain, frustration and hopelessness.
It is better to spend time cultivating one's own personal gifts and talents rather than to lust after the possessions of others.
