Pray For The Dungy Family
Tony Dungy coach of the Indianapolis football Colts experienced a parent's worst fear the death of a child. The loss of a child is always devastating but it is more so when the child is a talented eighteen year old whose life is tragically cut short.
Many have experienced and overcome tragedies but the sudden death of a child is a heartbreak beyond any other in life.
I have never met coach Dungy. I have only seen him on TV and read about him in various news articles and from all indications he is a class act. News commentators say that he is not flashy or self serving. He is said to be a caring human being and a great role model who does not have to yell at players to get their attention.
Those who know Coach Dungy say that he is a deeply religious man. I am confident that his faith will serve him well during these trying times. Faith allows one to see a rainbow beyond the clouds. The death of a loved one usually causes a person to reevaluate and appreciate the value of life for life is indeed a fantastic gift from God. We who are blessed with the gift of life should live every day as if it was our last day and strive to bring a little a joy and happiness in the lives of others for in doing so our lives become more meaningful.
During Hurricane Katrina many people lost their lives and others lost their material possessions. But many who survived the storm did not abandon the faith that was a source of comfort during past disappointments. A lesson learned during Katrina is that we need to hold on to our faith because it may be the only source of hope and strength we have one day. I am confident that the faith of coach Dungy will be a source of strength and comfort as he struggles to make sense of the loss of his son James. I encourage the entire American family to pray for the Dungy family during these trying times.
